The start of spring brings backyard barbecues and pool parties, so needless to say, some refreshing drinks are in order. Sure, you could reach for a seasonal bottle of rosé (or better yet, rosé cider), but why not spice things up a little? Our friends from Barone Fini shared a sophisticated sangria recipe that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Plus, with only a few ingredients, this batch cocktail is super easy to mix up and takes mere minutes to prepare. The base is simple: a crisp and fruity white wine. From there, all you need are ripe blackberries and basil leaves. (Extra spirits? Totally up to you!) The combination is sweet, but not too sweet, thanks to the tartness of the blackberries and the peppery flavor of the basil.

Ingredients:

Prep time: 2 minutes flat.

Directions:

In a glass pitcher large enough to hold a 750ml bottle of wine, gently muddle the blackberries and basil leaves with a wooden spoon to release their flavor. Stir in the bottle of pinot grigio, then refrigerate until chilled or overnight if planning permits (the longer it sits, the more flavorful the sangria becomes). For an extra kick, you can add vodka; alternatively, you can add sparkling water to tone down the alcohol content.

To serve, pour over ice cubes and garnish with additional blackberries and basil. Sip, sip, hooray!

(Helpful tip: Prepare extra. This stuff goes down fast.)
