Red Flags We Can't Ignore In David And Victoria Beckham's Relationship

David and Victoria Beckham are one of Hollywood's biggest power couples that's managed to stay together for over two decades, but their marriage isn't without some red flags. The two met in 1997 at the height of Victoria's career when she was Posh Spice in the worldwide girl group Spice Girls and she has since had a stunning style transformation. David was a star in his own right in the soccer world as a team member of Manchester United. He recalled first meeting Victoria at one of his games in London in an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Of course, he knew who she was, and he told Fallon that Victoria was his favorite Spice Girl.

Although their romance seemed like it started with a meet-cute, David said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that the Spice Girls were just tuning in to the spotlight when he had his eyes on his now-wife: "I was in a hotel room with my best friend who was my best man at my wedding. I remember turning around before I'd even met Victoria and said, 'I want to marry that one.'"

Weeks later, the two became a bonafide couple, and in 1999, his dream came true. Did David manifest his wish, or did his fanboy ways make him determined to pursue Posh Spice? Either way, wanting to marry "that one" is just one of the many questionable moments of David and Victoria's relationship.

David Beckham's alleged affairs rocked his marriage to Victoria

In 2004, David Beckham's former employee, Rebecca Loos, told Sky TV (via the Daily Mail) that she and the soccer player had an affair. Loos shared that she was assigned to be David's assistant by Real Madrid and although there was no initial spark on her part, they became close over time. "There was an obvious attraction. We spent a lot of time together ... He treated me in a special way. Always made sure I was looked after," she stated. According to Loos, their alleged affair began after a night of partying and David suggested she come over to his hotel room, which she agreed to. As their affair continued, though, the temperature changed for Loos. "It was clothes off, get the action done and out ... I felt really cheap, used," she shared.

The same year, another woman named Sarah Marbeck came forward with her own David affair story to News of the World (via Sydney Morning Herald). She claimed their romance started in 2001 after meeting him in Singapore and continued while Victoria Beckham was pregnant with their son, Romeo. "I know I meant something to him because, on and off, we continued our relationship month after month after month," she stated. Amid the accusations, Victoria made the decision not to dump the person who allegedly cheated on her, but the Spice Girl revealed in her memoir "Learning To Fly" that she punched her husband in the face after hearing about Marbeck.

David and Victoria Beckham's marriage took a hit when he was with Real Madrid

They say distance makes the heart grow fonder, but in David and Victoria Beckham's case, it almost tore them apart. In their Netflix documentary, "Beckham," the couple spoke about the time David was living in Madrid for work while Victoria was in England. Hinting at the affair rumors, David shared, "I don't know how we got through it, in all honesty. Victoria is everything to me. To see her hurt was incredibly difficult." Victoria stated, "Up until Madrid, sometimes it felt like us against everybody else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn't really feel like we had each other either."

Following the documentary, Rebecca Loos told the Daily Mail, "It's all, 'poor me.' He needs to take responsibility." She added, "He can say whatever he likes of course and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he's making me look like a liar, like I've made up these stories. He is indirectly suggesting that I'm the one who has made Victoria suffer." Loos went on to say that David needed to take responsibility for his actions and issue a mea culpa, rather than make it seem like she was the bad guy in the situation.

The Beckhams have had to deny several divorce rumors

With several cheating allegations and busy schedules, David and Victoria Beckham haven't had an easy time in their marriage. As shared by Yahoo! News, a source told The Sun in 2015 that the couple had been fighting as of late and were growing further apart. In an interview with Grazia, Victoria stated, "I have never listened to, or commented on, the rumors about any aspect of my life." She admitted that she and David are both busy traveling a lot but insisted that they are happy. The rumors went on for years and in 2018, their rep stated to Hello!, "There is no impending statement, no divorce."

After Victoria shared an Instagram video of herself swatching lipgloss on her wrists in 2022, fans noticed her "DB" tattoo had been removed, sparking more concern that she and David were splitting. However, a source revealed to TMZ that all was good between Victoria and David and that his initials weren't the only tattoos she had removed. She later told Today that she just didn't like how the tat looked anymore, sharing, "It doesn't mean anything more than that. I think that the media started to speculate was I leaving my husband. No. I was just a bit sick of the tattoo. It's as simple as that."

David and Victoria Beckham can't enjoy decadent meals together

In 2022, David Beckham appeared on the podcast "Ruthie's Table 4" and spoke about his love of cooking and drinking a nice bottle of wine. He shared, "I get quite emotional about food and wine. When I'm eating something great, I want everyone to try it. Unfortunately, I'm married to someone that has eaten the same thing for the last 25 years." Beckham added, "Since I met Victoria, she only eats grilled fish, steamed vegetables; she will very rarely deviate away from that. The only time she's ever probably shared something that's been on my plate was actually when she was pregnant with Harper, and it was the most amazing thing." Victoria Beckham ended up defending her eating habits in an interview with Vogue. "What he meant is that he's never met anyone who's more disciplined with the way that they eat. I eat lots of healthy fat: fish, avocado, nuts, that sort of thing," she protested.

According to celebrity chef Dani Garcia, Victoria Beckham was a nightmare guest at a 2019 wedding, per the Mirror. The chef claimed on a Spanish TV show that the former pop star altered her menu selection to mostly vegetables after having created an elaborate menu for the bride and groom. "And then there were some odd things that I've never seen in my life. She had coconut water, all the time, [and] a bowl of mints," he said. Victoria admitted on "Ruthie's Table 4" that she probably is, in fact, a restaurant's "worst nightmare."

David Beckham said marriage to Victoria is difficult

Victoria Beckham always likes to put up a united front even during David Beckham's many cheating rumors, but the former LA Galaxy player showed cracks in their marriage in an interview with "The Sunday Project" (via USA Today). "To have been married for the amount of time that we have, you know, it's always hard work. It becomes a little more complicated," he admitted.

Following the interview, a source told The Sun that Victoria was furious at her husband's comments. "She has no idea why he would say such insensitive things and publicly embarrass her like this. As you can imagine, it was as if a nuclear bomb had gone off in the Beckham household when she found out. She was in pieces and spent the next two days crying. To say it's not been the best of weeks is an understatement," the insider shared. Victoria was so upset that she flew to a luxury spa in Baden-Baden, Germany to cool off and pamper herself for a couple of days. After all, she is Posh Spice, whose favorite perfume is a quiet-luxury staple called Room Service.
