When it comes to celebrities, Chrissy Teigen is as real as it gets. When she is not trolling trolls on social media, she’s sharing genuine moments from her daily life, including the messier side of parenting. She’s known for her honest takes on motherhood — we will never forget her postpartum mesh diaper post — and in a recent interview with Good Housekeeping, the model, television host, and cookbook author opened up about how her body changed after having kids and why it’s important for her to share her experiences with other women online.

“Every morning when I look at myself in the mirror, I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, how did it get here? My baby was, like, four pounds and I gained, like, 60 pounds, and that seems off,’” said the February cover star. “But, you know, I think everyone’s body is just really different.”

The 33-year-old mother, who shares daughter Luna, 2, and son Miles, 7 months, with husband John Legend, admits that she suffered from postpartum depression, something that affects around 1 in 7 women who give birth. Though it is the most common medical complication of childbirth, there is still a strong stigma surrounding what’s commonly referred to as the baby blues. “That’s why, my posts of real mom shit, and wearing the diaper, and having that mesh thing, and real postpartum business? I think as important as it is for people to see me do that, it’s also really important for me,” Teigen explained.

Overall, she said, “It’s just crazy how judgmental people can be.” That’s especially true when it comes to new moms, who are often met with unsolicited advice, criticism, and the pressure to appear perfect.

Teigen went on to describe how motherhood is helping her come to terms with her post-baby body. “It’s all about trying to be happy with myself. Because I’m not blind: I see my body, I see the difference in shape, I see that I gained weight. But I also see with those same eyes that I have a beautiful baby boy, and this little girl that’s relentless and amazing, and I am very happy,” she told the publication. “This is a new thing that I can change within my mind, that I don’t have to be a swimsuit model anymore. I get to be a mommy, and I get to cook, and I get to meet incredible people, and I’m happy to be going through this transition.”
