Serena Willams and Alexis Ohanian tied the knot at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans on Thursday, November 16. Early in the planning process the couple decided on a royal ball theme with Beauty and the Beast decor, and event planner Jennifer Zabinski brought the fairy-tale wedding to life. “Serena’s very girly. She was like, ‘I love Disney, how can we incorporate it in?'” Zabinski told Vogue in an exclusive interview. The venue was complete with lush flowers and gold arches fit for a ball, and similarly, her dresses (yes, plural) were fit for a queen.
According to Vogue, who got exclusive photos of the big event, the tennis superstar flew to London to meet with Sarah Butron of Alexander McQueen for the design of her dream dress. Williams walked down the aisle in a dramatic strapless belted ballgown with an embellished cape and $3.5 million of sparkling jewels. To complete her ceremony look, the bride carried a bouquet of white roses.
After guests made their way to the reception, the newlyweds entered the wedding venue for the first time as husband and wife. For this monumental moment, Serena debuted a second dress with bead work and feathers. The festive gown was made by none other than Versace. Donatella Versace told Vogue, “It took a team of five embroiderers to create the dress.” But the wedding dress extravaganza doesn’t end there.
