The movie is based on a true story, which was published in New York Magazine back in 2016, and will follow a crew of former strippers who “band together to turn the tables on their Wall Street clients.” Drawing inspiration from Robinhood, with plenty of feminist undertones, the group swindles patrons out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Lorene Scafaria is writing and directing the film, which is set to begin filming in NYC this month. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to work with this dynamic group of women,” she said. “We’re grateful to have assembled such a powerhouse cast and can’t wait to start filming at the end of the week.”
The film will be Cardi B’s feature debut, but she is no stranger to stripping. The award-winning rapper was a stripper before breaking into the music business, and she isn’t afraid to admit it. “People ask, ‘Why did you strip?’” she told Cosmopolitan. “I don’t really want to say, ‘Oh, because I was in a relationship with a guy and I needed money to leave. People say, ‘Why do you always got to say that you used to be a stripper? We get it.’ Because y’all don’t respect me because of it, and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on.”
J.Lo has been practicing for the role by taking pole dancing classes and upping her strength training. Because, believe it or not, stripping is a skill.
