Brian McCook — better known by his stage name, Katya Petrovna Zamolodchikova — became famous when competing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Not long after the show aired, Katya became one of the most popular contestants on season 7, and thanks to a host of spectacular performances, soon gained attention worldwide as a notable drag queen.
“I think what sets me apart is my unique sense of humor and honesty,” McCook says of the character, adding that Katya is the colorful embodiment of the fun, subversive humor that has long been a signature of the gay community. She’s a standout as soon as she hits the stage — and shows no signs of slowing down.
Katya has turned the performance art into a full-fledged career. These days, you’ll find her traveling around the world with a punishing schedule, performing shows night after night. “When I’m on the road, I love to sleep — unfortunately, we never get to,” she jokes. “It’s exhausting, but it’s rewarding.”
