Colorful Liner Is The Trendiest Way To Make Your Eyes Pop In 2024
Black and brown eyeliners are makeup staples, but for now, we're setting them aside for one good reason: Colorful lids are hot, hot, hot in 2024. If recent runway looks are any indicator, bright eyeliner will generally be big this year, with makeup artist Kim Baker telling Elle, "I predict that the Spring/Summer '24 makeup trends are going to be all about vibrant, bold, color eyeliners." The Glamazon Beauty Cosmetics creator added that we'll see a lot of liners "in bold over-the-top shades such as periwinkle, royal blue, vibrant red, and shocking pink."
Colorful eyeliners come in pencil or liquid form, with the latter being easier to use for fun, graphic shapes. You can do a single wing for a dramatic cat-eye or a cool, double-winged shape that has been trending. Pencil liners are great for smudging on the bottom lid and even filling in your water line for a pop of color. And if you're not ready to let go of your tried-and-true black liner but still want to hop aboard this trend, you can always layer a bright shade on top for a stunning 3-D look.
Go wild with different shades of liner
With myriad colorful eyeliners to choose from, it can be hard to pick just one. The good thing is that you don't have to! Play with as many colors as you want and incorporate purple, green, and yellow if your heart desires. As an added touch, swipe on bright yellow freeform lines around your eyes for a futuristic look.
Blue eyeliner isn't just for the '80s
Retro looks rule, and we're all for bringing back blue eyeliner. If the thought of going full-on "Jem and the Holograms" is too much for you, you can ease into blue liner by penciling in either your top or bottom lid, not both. It gives your eye makeup look just a subtle pop of color without overwhelming your face. To make the blue really stand out, swipe some gold eyeliner along your top eyelids as a perfect contrasting shade.
Layer a colorful color over your black eyeliner
Graphic black eyeliner stands out on its own, but when paired with a light color, it will really make your eyes pop. We recommend using liquid liners for a precise application, but a sharp kohl pencil will do as well. First, create a winged line and extend it past the outer corners of your eyes. You can also bring it up over your lid for a double-winged look. After it's dried, take your lighter color, and apply it right above your black line, making sure to connect the two colors.
Neon pink is everything
Barbiecore may be making its way out in 2024, but we can never fully let go of pink hues, whether in our makeup or fashion. Paint a bold stripe on your lid to create a colorful cat-eye. For your bottom lid, add a touch of powder eyeshadow in a slightly lighter color. To make the colors really stand out, dust some silver eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes, and apply at least two coats of black mascara.
Green is a big color for 2024
Green has been seen everywhere lately, including Taylor Swift's shiny emerald-colored 2024 Golden Globes dress. This trend will continue to be huge this year, and you can be at the forefront of it with metallic green eyeliner. Give your lower lids a burst of earthy color with a pencil, and smudge it slightly to soften up any harsh lines. A pair of falsies on your upper lash line will give your eyes an extra flirty effect.
